National Doctors Day began in 1933 as one womans effort to recognize physicians for their dedication and service and to their patients and their communities. In 1990 President George Bush signed a bill, which established March 30th as a National Day to commemorate doctors.
Many Doctors professional groups and hospitals have begun to use National Doctors Day as a day to highlight their commitments to the communities they serve and to work together to provide community service, specifically after 9/11, focusing on how Doctors can contribute to the emergency preparedness of our nation, in the event of a natural disaster or a breach in Homeland Security.
National Doctors Day is a chance for all of us to say thank you to the physicians who work to promote health and safety in the communities around us. For more information on National Doctors Day, call 800-849-1727 or email info@doctorsday.org.
While National Doctors Day is March 30th, any day of year is a fine one, to offer your doctor thank you for caring and thank you for being there when you need them. Just like the Get Well Gift Basket, which totally cheered your spirits while recuperating, a gift basket full of yummy treats will let your doctor know that you appreciated their bedside manner.
